Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team at Toronto Hydro. As a key member of our Infrastructure Operations department, you will be responsible for implementing processes, systems, and projects that contribute to the efficient technical delivery of maintenance and improvement of our Database infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain database systems, ensuring high performance, security, and reliability.
  • Migrate and upgrade existing databases to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Install and configure new databases, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Provide after-hours database support, including on-call support, to ensure minimal disruption to our operations.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Apply the latest security patches and complete regular health checks to prevent potential issues.
  • Document Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant architecture and security standards.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or College diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in Database Administration.
  • Mandatory experience with Oracle database administration on Unix (AIX preferred), performance tuning, and debugging.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to verbally communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences.
  • Technical writing skills for documenting operational support guides and buildbooks.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather relevant information systematically and consider a broad range of issues or factors.
  • Ability to make timely and sound decisions, evaluate short- and long-term consequences, and innovate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing small upgrade projects, with the ability to manage client expectations, keep others informed, and adjust plans to respond to changing business priorities.
  • Collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with others, share information, and facilitate discussion and resolution of different views.
  • Drive and commitment, with the ability to strive to attain results, convey a sense of urgency, and drive issues to closure.
  • Technical/functional expertise, with up-to-date knowledge in the profession and industry, and the ability to access and use other expert resources when appropriate.
