Job Summary:

Toronto Hydro is seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our Infrastructure Operations department, you will be responsible for implementing processes, systems, and projects that contribute to the efficient technical delivery of maintenance and improvement of our Database infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain database management systems, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Migrate and upgrade existing databases to ensure compatibility and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Install and configure new databases, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Provide after-hours database support, including on-call support, to ensure minimal disruption to our operations.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Apply latest security patches and complete health checks to ensure database integrity.
  • Document Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant architecture and security standards.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or College diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in Database Administration.
  • Mandatory experience with Oracle database administration on Unix (AIX preferred), performance tuning, and debugging.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written communication, to effectively interact with technical staff and senior management.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems, including gathering relevant information, considering multiple factors, and making sound decisions.
  • Experience with project management, including managing client expectations, monitoring projects, and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Collaborative mindset, including willingness to share information, facilitate discussion, and promote teamwork.
  • Drive and commitment to achieving results, including conveying a sense of urgency, persisting through obstacles, and setting high standards of performance.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in the profession and industry, including accessing and using expert resources as needed.

What We Offer:

Toronto Hydro offers a Hybrid Work Arrangement, allowing for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
