General Overview:

The Diamond Bailey Healing Centre (DBHC) is a newly established facility operated by the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre (MNFC), designed to meet the needs of the Urban Indigenous Community. This Indigenous-led, trauma-informed center provides culturally relevant healing programs alongside stable housing, deeply rooted in Indigenous traditions and practices. The DBHC aims to equip clients with the necessary teachings and resources to facilitate healing, achieve a balanced lifestyle in accordance with the principles of the medicine wheel, and attain housing stability.

DBHC is seeking a dedicated overnight full-time Indigenous Client Relations Liaison who will engage with urban Indigenous clients at the Diamond Bailey Healing Centre. This role is pivotal in ensuring clients receive comprehensive support throughout their healing journey. The ICRL will handle various administrative, clerical, and reception tasks, ensuring that client needs, inquiries, or referrals are directed to the appropriate coordinator, housing worker, or manager. This position is dynamic, providing essential support to the Diamond Bailey team and ensuring smooth and efficient operations of the DBHC. Collaboration with interdepartmental programs and services is key to addressing the needs of all community members.

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:

  • Welcome and guide all community members, visitors, and the general public at the Diamond Bailey Healing Centre.
  • Respond to incoming calls and social media inquiries, assisting community members as needed.
  • Perform essential administrative tasks, providing information and assistance to clients and those with general inquiries or referrals.
  • Manage office supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and ordering new supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate client files, records, and documents.
  • Update data in the MNFC's database system daily, ensuring all client files are current.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of all records and files, releasing information only as authorized by the Diamond Bailey Manager.

Client Support Responsibilities:

  • Direct complaints, inquiries, and requests from community members and clients to the appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with the Diamond Bailey Manager and Coordinators to ensure clients receive comprehensive support in balancing their medicine wheels and meeting their needs.
  • Work closely with DBHC staff and all MNFC programs to provide referral support and address inquiries.
  • Exhibit a positive and enthusiastic demeanor with clients to encourage participation and engagement.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with MNFC and DBHC department coordinators to meet the holistic needs of Indigenous clients, following the teachings of the medicine wheel.
  • Assist in the client orientation process, including facility tours and document signing.
  • Support coordinators with tasks such as security checks of client accommodations and appointment reminders.
  • Inform clients about all programs and services offered by the MNFC and other external resources available to meet the unique needs of Indigenous clientele.
  • Collaborate with interdepartmental staff to ensure equitable access to resources and services, including housing, harm reduction, justice, family resources, education/training, employment, social supports, and cultural/traditional supports.
  • Support coordinators and management by ensuring referrals of client/community members are communicated respectfully.

Communication Duties:

  • Keep communication boards updated with relevant information, including job postings, notices, and events.
  • Post community events on social media platforms.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a workplace environment that respects the cultural and holistic needs of Indigenous clients.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership by providing trauma-informed, non-judgmental support.
  • Ensure office equipment is properly managed and conduct security sweeps as needed.
  • Utilize conflict resolution skills to defuse situations.
  • Engage in the development of the MNFC and participate in internal committees and projects.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as required.
  • Adhere to all MNFC and DBHC policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Implement emergency triage measures when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma/Certification in community social services or a related field is considered an asset.
  • 2-3 years of experience working with vulnerable populations or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and cultural knowledge is a valuable asset.
  • Previous administrative or business management experience is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of community resources, programs, and services is essential.
  • Experience in customer service and strong communication skills are advantageous.
  • Proven ability to guide individuals and apply new practices based on Indigenous culture.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interprofessional team.
  • Demonstrated independence and initiative in work.
  • Flexibility in shift availability based on community needs.
  • Respect for the interests of clients is crucial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check) and proof of First Aid & Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification as a condition of employment. Training may be provided.
  • Indigenous ancestry is considered an asset; self-identification is required.
