OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

Western Forest Products presents a remarkable opportunity for an experienced financial reporting professional to step into the role of Senior Director of Financial Reporting. This position offers a dynamic work environment that fosters collaboration and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:
As the Senior Director of Financial Reporting, you will report directly to the VP of Finance and oversee a comprehensive suite of financial and management accounting functions. Your leadership will guide a team of three direct reports, ensuring excellence in reporting and analysis. Your expertise in International Financial Reporting Standards will be essential as you collaborate with various teams across the organization, providing essential accounting guidance and support for finance and cross-functional initiatives.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will hold a CPA-CA designation and possess a proven track record in financial leadership within a medium to large multi-jurisdictional public company, complemented by audit experience from a Big 4 firm. You are a proactive leader with a knack for enhancing systems and building a robust, service-oriented finance team. Your commitment to understanding the business intricacies will position you as a valued business partner, paving the way for potential advancement into senior roles.

Work Environment:
This role is situated within our Corporate Office, fostering a collaborative atmosphere.

Key Duties:
  • Oversee all aspects of monthly consolidated financial reporting and analysis, including ad-hoc reporting for management decision-making;
  • Ensure timely preparation of quarterly consolidated financial statements and related disclosures;
  • Develop Management's Discussion & Analysis, Results News Releases, Quarterly and Annual Reports, and other regulatory documents;
  • Assist in the preparation of Management Information Circular and Sustainability Reports;
  • Manage financial reporting for corporate departments, including property and capital asset accounting;
  • Lead the annual business planning process for departmental budgets;
  • Prepare financial statements for legal entities and support tax provision and regulatory filings;
  • Coordinate external auditor reviews and audits;
  • Serve as the primary contact for technical accounting issues, providing research documentation for recommendations;
  • Oversee the finance function of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 financial reporting system;
  • Maintain accounting policies and controls to ensure the integrity of financial statements;
  • Lead finance and cross-functional projects, including IT system implementations;
  • Undertake additional duties and project opportunities as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • CPA or CPA-CA designation required;
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in financial reporting within a medium to large multi-jurisdictional public company, alongside Big 4 audit experience;
  • Experience in the forest products or resource sector is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and its practical application;
  • Ability to analyze processes critically and implement improvements;
  • Proven capability to manage multiple deliverables within tight deadlines;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach;
  • Passion for technical accounting and adeptness in interpreting accounting standards;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • High integrity, accountability, and the ability to work autonomously;
  • Desire to identify and lead process enhancements;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft D365 is a plus.
