**POSITION/RANK:** Chief Executive Officer

**GENERAL INFO:** The Society for Music Theory is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Chief Executive Officer. This position is pivotal in guiding the organization towards achieving its mission of advancing the study and teaching of music theory.

The successful candidate will take on leadership responsibilities as soon as possible. This is a part-time contract role with a compensation of $2,500 annually.

**JOB DESCRIPTION:** The Chief Executive Officer will lead the team responsible for the strategic direction and operational management of the Society. This role includes overseeing various editorial and publication activities, ensuring high standards of quality and excellence. The CEO will collaborate closely with other team members, including editors, reviewers, and designers.

**Key Responsibilities include:**

  1. Reviewing and managing the annual call for scholarly submissions.
  2. Overseeing the peer review process, including identifying suitable reviewers and facilitating feedback.
  3. Collaborating with editorial staff to prepare and refine all materials for publication.
  4. Ensuring effective communication with the operations manager regarding publication timelines.
  5. Coordinating with content editors to manage submissions in multiple languages.
  6. Working with graphic designers to format and present the publication.
  7. Ensuring that all content meets international academic standards.
  8. Managing the publication process to ensure timely print and distribution.
  9. Expanding the reach of the Society's open access distribution model.
  10. Updating the Society's website with relevant content.

**QUALIFICATIONS:** Required qualifications include:

  1. Extensive experience in publishing and editorial roles.
  2. Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
  3. A commitment to promoting and advancing music theory scholarship.

**COMPENSATION:** $2,500 per annum for overseeing one edition of the publication.
