Senior Legal Counsel, Compliance Specialist

Smith + Andersen is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join its shared services team in Toronto. As a key member of the team, you will provide legal support to the company's offices across Canada, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Provide legal advice and support to project teams and leadership on commercial and construction law matters.
- Negotiate and review legal agreements and contracts to protect the company's interests and mitigate risk.
- Manage project-related claims and disputes, including insurance claims and litigation.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with leadership, shared services, and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
- 5-7 years of experience in commercial and construction law, obtained in private practice or in-house.
- Expertise in contract drafting and negotiation, dispute resolution, and compliance and risk management.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and management.
- Ability to guide business teams through complex legal matters and train non-legal personnel on legal functions.
