Overview:
As a pivotal member of the team, the Lead Process Engineering Manager will report directly to the Program Manager for Field Deployments. This role is essential in steering process engineering and modeling initiatives while supervising a dedicated team of process engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with various departments including field deployments, marketing, business development, product development, and R&D to address process engineering and modeling inquiries.
  2. Manage and oversee the process engineering team, ensuring timely completion of work requests from both internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Guide the team in assembling, commissioning, and operating a pre-commercial facility that generates hydrogen through an innovative methane pyrolysis technique.
  4. Support the team in the development of full-scale commercial hydrogen production facilities.
  5. Direct process engineering and modeling efforts at Ekona.
  6. Ensure the pre-commercial facility adheres to design specifications and meets or exceeds operational KPIs.
  7. Incorporate findings from the PMP test system into the design of the pilot plant.
  8. Provide expertise to enhance Ekona's existing PMP Aspen Model.
  9. Lead studies on process modeling and evaluate various process configuration alternatives.
  10. Update and create Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  11. Conduct process hazard analyses and facilitate process selection evaluations.
  12. Calculate the sizing of pressure safety devices.
  13. Establish or refine design standards to guide the engineering team.
  14. Collaborate with the team to innovate new reactor and system concepts for current and future product lines.
  15. Mentor and train direct reports, providing guidance and support.
  16. Conduct performance evaluations, regular one-on-one meetings, and oversee timesheet approvals and leave requests.
  17. Develop operational strategies and promote safe working practices.
  18. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  2. Over 10 years of industry experience.
  3. At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role is preferred.
  4. Strong foundation in mass and energy balances, including PFDs and P&IDs.
  5. Proficient in process simulation software such as HYSYS and Aspen Plus.
  6. Experience with HAZOPs and pressure safety device sizing.
  7. Prior involvement in pilot plant or industrial-scale commissioning and startup is beneficial.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings and actionable priorities effectively.
  9. Detail-oriented with a strong analytical mindset.
  10. Experience in industrial chemical process scale-up and commercialization.
  11. Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
  12. Professional Engineering designation or in the process of obtaining it.
  13. Demonstrated leadership skills to coach and mentor junior process engineers.
