Job Title: Supervisor, Building Standards

Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor, Building Standards to join our team in Planning and Development. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Building Code and other relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a senior subject matter expert in the application and interpretation of the Building Code.
  • Supervise the review and approval of construction plans and permits.
  • Liaise with design professionals, developers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Provide technical and procedural information to customers and stakeholders.
  • Supervise the review and approval of minor permits applications.
  • Establish and monitor procedures to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in the processing of permit applications and inspections.
  • Administer HRM policies and procedures related to building code compliance.
  • Resolve conflicts and interpretive issues related to business unit activities.
  • Implement and comply with HRM Corporate Occupational Health & Safety policies and regulations.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff regarding standard operating procedures.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop staff.
Requirements:
  • Level 2 Diploma of Qualification as issued by the Nova Scotia Building Code Training and Certification Board.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the construction and/or development industry.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience enforcing the Building Code as a Level 2 Building Official.
  • Experience administering provincial and/or municipal regulations, statutes, and by-laws in a regulatory environment.
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset.

Security Clearance Requirements:

Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

Work Status:

Permanent, Full-time

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 35 hours per week. Flex options to work outside of these hours and hybrid may be available.

Salary:

Non-Union level 7 $82,080 - $106,220
