Become a Personal Business Advisor (Remote Across Canada)

Role Description: As a Personal Business Advisor, you will play a crucial role in guiding individuals through their entrepreneurial journeys. We are currently seeking volunteers with extensive expertise in key business domains, including e-commerce, digital marketing, online branding, finance, and accounting for small businesses. This mentorship role is our most comprehensive and hands-on volunteer opportunity.

As a mentor, you will be paired with a client who has recently obtained a Rise loan (up to $10k) and can greatly benefit from your insights. Over the course of a year, through monthly meetings and ongoing communication, you will provide professional guidance and personal support to help your mentee enhance their skills and make informed decisions to grow their business.

Throughout your mentoring relationship, you will receive continuous support from Volunteer Manitoba to ensure a productive and rewarding experience for both you and your mentee. Volunteering with us is an opportunity to empower individuals with mental health and addiction challenges to create small businesses that can transform their lives and contribute to thriving communities across Canada.

Required Skills:

To volunteer as a mentor, candidates must:

  • Possess a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience or at least two years of entrepreneurial experience.
  • Demonstrate a passion for working with entrepreneurs facing mental health or addiction challenges.
  • Have relevant skills and professional experience to advise on at least one critical area for small business development (e.g., accounting, marketing, sales, business operations, e-commerce).
  • Commit to mentoring an entrepreneur for one (1) year, which includes monthly one-hour meetings and additional time for ongoing communications as needed (minimum total commitment of 2-4 hours per month).

Time Commitment:

This is a one-year mentoring program that includes:

  • Monthly one-hour meetings (12 total).
  • A minimum of 1-3 hours of additional monthly communications and support as needed.
  • Flexible days and times for meetings.

Additional Information:

Volunteers may be required to undergo a criminal record check, with costs reimbursed. Training and orientation will be provided, along with a letter of reference upon completion of the program.
