Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator

Position Overview:

The City of Red Deer is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator to join our team in a permanent full-time capacity. This role involves executing various operational tasks within the Treatment Plant to assist in Maintenance and Operations functions. Key responsibilities include performing work activities that adhere to established policies, procedures, Occupational Health & Safety standards, and the Alberta Environment Approval to Operate.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Possession of a Level I WWT Alberta Environment Operator's Certificate
  • Successful completion of all mandatory safety certification courses as required by the Province or the City
  • Minimum of 1 year of industrial experience, ideally within a Treatment Plant or similar process environment
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): safety footwear, coveralls, face shield, respirator, safety glasses, gloves, gas monitor
  • Capability to handle and utilize chemicals safely; awareness of hazards such as electrocution, drowning, rotating equipment, and confined spaces
  • Proficiency in using SCBA in potentially hazardous atmospheres; some tasks may necessitate the use of safety harnesses and additional safety gear
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular hours as necessary
  • Willingness to dedicate personal time for assistance beyond standard hours
  • Experience with diverse, complex, and large-scale processes
  • Ability to perform effectively and safely under pressure during emergency repairs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Proven capability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues, following instructions accurately
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office software
  • Physical fitness to perform tasks such as climbing ladders, working at heights, operating valves, lifting, shoveling, bending, and twisting in various positions
  • Capacity to work in all weather conditions and in environments that may be noisy, dirty, wet, cold, hot, or otherwise uncomfortable
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, maps, and manuals

Compensation:

$27.37 to $31.11 per hour

Work Schedule:

80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, with potential evening and weekend shifts as required.
