Opportunity Overview:

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dedicated Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FM&E) Manager to lead our operational sites. This pivotal role encompasses both management and technical oversight in the upkeep and functionality of our healthcare facilities' infrastructure, equipment, and environment. Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in mechanical or power engineering, hold a Red Seal Journeyman certification in a relevant trade, and demonstrate extensive knowledge of building systems and maintenance protocols. The position is primarily based out of the RDRHC, with responsibilities extending to various facilities within the region.

Key Responsibilities:

The FM&E Manager plays a crucial leadership role within the FM&E and Capital Management sectors, reporting directly to the FM&E Area Director. This position is accountable for executing the strategic vision and providing frontline leadership to ensure departmental activities align with the overarching goals of Alberta Health Services. Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating, implementing, and integrating resources to support departmental objectives.
  • Making critical decisions and providing direct leadership to achieve departmental goals.
  • Managing fiscal responsibilities, including accurate budgeting for salaries, supplies, and contracted services.
  • Overseeing both internal and external project management across various operational and capital-funded initiatives.
  • Developing and nurturing internal and external partnerships through effective communication.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Professional Engineer or Engineering Technologist designation in the electrical discipline, or be a Journeyperson Electrician. A valid class 5 Alberta Driver's license is also required. Additional qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying Codes, Regulations, and Standards.
  • Experience working within a computerized environment and familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional and personal development.
  • Proven experience in managing and maintaining compliance within a healthcare facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with ten (10) years of experience in a recognized healthcare setting, particularly in a leadership capacity within a Facility Maintenance & Engineering program, will be given preference. Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Technical knowledge of maintenance and operational requirements for systems such as high-pressure steam, boilers, water treatment, medical gases, HVAC systems, and emergency generating systems.
  • Managerial or financial education and experience.
  • Certification as a Facility Manager (CFM designation).
