Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator

Position Overview:
The City of Red Deer is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator for a full-time, term role. This position is essential in performing various labor-intensive tasks within the Treatment Plant to support maintenance and operational activities. The primary responsibilities include executing work functions that adhere to established policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education
- Possession of a Level I WWT Alberta Environment Operator's Certificate
- Successful completion of all required safety certification courses
- A minimum of one year of industrial experience, ideally in a Treatment Plant or similar operational environment
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Mandatory personal protective equipment: safety footwear, coveralls, face shield, respirator, safety glasses, gloves, and gas monitor
- Experience in handling chemicals and awareness of associated hazards, including electrocution, drowning, rotating equipment, and confined spaces
- Capability to use SCBA in potentially hazardous atmospheres, along with safety harnesses and other equipment when necessary
- Flexibility to work outside of regular hours as needed
- Strong commitment to assisting with emergency repairs under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on teamwork
- Ability to work independently while following instructions accurately
- Mechanical aptitude and proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office
- Physical fitness to perform tasks such as climbing, lifting, and working in various weather conditions
- Competence in interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Employment Details:
This position is affiliated with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417. The remuneration for this role ranges from $27.37 to $31.11 per hour.
Work Schedule:
The work schedule consists of 80 hours biweekly, typically from Monday to Friday, with potential evening and weekend shifts as required.
