Position Overview:

The City of Red Deer is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator for a permanent full-time role. This position involves a variety of labor-intensive tasks within the Treatment Plant to support maintenance and operational functions. The primary responsibilities include executing work activities that adhere to established policies, safety regulations, and environmental standards.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education
  • Possession of Level I WWT Alberta Environment Operator's Certificate
  • Successful completion of all mandated safety training courses
  • Minimum of 1 year of industrial experience, ideally in a Treatment Plant or similar operational environment
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Required personal protective equipment includes safety footwear, coveralls, face shield, respirator, safety glasses, gloves, and gas monitor
  • This role involves handling chemicals and presents various hazards such as electrocution, drowning, rotating machinery, and confined spaces.
  • Use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is mandatory in potentially hazardous atmospheres. Certain tasks may require safety harnesses and additional protective gear.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular hours may be necessary
  • Commitment to assist during emergencies outside of standard working hours
  • Experience with complex and large-scale processes is preferred
  • Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure during emergency repairs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Proven capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, following instructions accurately
  • Mechanical aptitude is essential
  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with MS Office applications
  • Physical fitness is required to perform tasks such as climbing ladders, working at heights, and lifting
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments that may be noisy, dirty, wet, cold, hot, or otherwise uncomfortable
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, maps, and manuals

Compensation:

$27.37 to $31.11 per hour

Work Schedule:

80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, with potential evening and weekend shifts as required.
