About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Health Care Assistant to join our team at Fraser Health Authority. As a Health Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing personal care and support to patients with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and serious mental illness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care to patients, including assisting with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, prosthetics, elimination, and exercise routines
  • Assist patients with daily activities, such as making beds, personal laundry, and organizing personal belongings
  • Serve and collect meal trays, and assist patients with feeding
  • Perform procedures such as weighing patients, monitoring nutritional/fluid intake and elimination, and collecting specimens
  • Chart and document patient information, and report problems and/or changes to nursing staff
  • Monitor patient safety and respond to escalating behaviour through verbal de-escalation and other strategies
  • Assist nursing staff with care of patients in seclusion rooms, and carry out patient activity programs
Qualifications
  • Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program, and completion of recognized recreational courses
  • One (1) year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, deal with others effectively, and teach
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
