About You

As a Financial Operations Manager, you will play a crucial role in the local leadership team, ensuring the effective achievement of the branch's objectives and strategic vision. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a robust accounting system and a comprehensive framework of controls and budgets aimed at minimizing risk and ensuring the precision of the branch's financial reporting.

You will collaborate closely with both the corporate office and local management teams to guarantee timely and precise financial reporting in accordance with established accounting standards. Additionally, you will work with the Internal Audit team to uphold effective internal controls over financial reporting for branch operations.

You will report directly to the Branch Manager and oversee a team of accounting professionals at the branch level. Your role will involve direct engagement with controllers at various levels and financial departments at the corporate office.

Key Responsibilities

% Time - Job Duties

  • 40% - Supervise timely and accurate financial and accounting operations while ensuring adherence to accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements. This includes month-end and year-end closing activities, preparation and review of financial statements, support for internal and external audits, and management of expense, cost, and capital expenditure controls and analyses.
  • 10% - Act as a strategic partner to the Branch Manager and Leadership Team by closely collaborating to understand operational challenges and objectives, utilizing financial expertise to enhance processes and drive efficiencies. Serve as a trusted advisor, offering insights and recommendations to facilitate data-driven decisions and optimize resource allocation.
  • 10% - Conduct proactive and detailed financial analyses to support decision-making and identify opportunities for profitability enhancement and process improvement. Lead cross-departmental initiatives to streamline branch operations, pinpointing areas for automation and enhancement to boost productivity and reduce costs.
  • 10% - Inspire, guide, and manage team members through effective performance management techniques, including setting expectations and goals, providing recognition and constructive feedback, and addressing performance issues. Mentor and develop employees according to their individual strengths and interests, empowering them to take ownership of their careers and performance.
  • 10% - Collaborate with department heads and the corporate office to develop budgets and forecasts, analyze variances, and provide recommendations to meet financial objectives.
  • 5% - Continuously improve accounting systems and processes to achieve greater efficiency and accuracy in reporting.
  • 5% - Manage government audit processes as required, particularly related to payroll and tax compliance.
  • 5% - Oversee the management of fixed assets, including capital projects, acquisitions, and disposals, ensuring financial justification and tracking of all project expenditures.
  • 5% - Administer the payroll process, including compliance reporting and reconciliations, as well as managing provincial healthcare and extended medical plan benefits.

Qualifications

If you possess the skills outlined above, you are well-suited for this role. Additional qualifications that would be beneficial include:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • A strong grasp of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and financial analysis techniques, along with proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, with a preference for 5 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with compliance in internal and external audits.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with SAP/BPC/SAC is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop people and delegate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with a history of resolving financial and operational challenges.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience in managing teams and leading cross-functional projects.
  • Advanced analytical skills to interpret complex financial data and identify trends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex financial concepts clearly.

Travel Requirements
This position may require domestic and international travel.

Work Status & Location
This is a full-time position located in Pitt Meadows, BC.
