Job Overview

IBI Group is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to enhance our growing Bridge division. Our team is dedicated to delivering innovative and large-scale structural rehabilitation and design initiatives across the country. As a vital contributor, you will utilize your extensive expertise in bridge engineering and construction to oversee and execute intricate bridge projects from start to finish. You will work closely with a variety of clients in both public and private sectors, guiding multidisciplinary teams through all phases of planning, design, and construction.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership and Project Delivery

  • Manage the entire lifecycle of bridge projects, ensuring top-notch quality and client satisfaction.
  • Guide and mentor engineering teams, promoting a collaborative atmosphere and enhancing team performance.
  • Conduct advanced engineering calculations, analyses, and designs, complying with stringent quality standards and industry practices.
  • Prepare and review comprehensive engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and reports.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including evaluation of contractor submissions and on-site assistance.

Project Management and Client Relations

  • Develop and implement detailed project plans, covering budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
  • Establish and nurture strong client relationships, proactively addressing their needs.
  • Lead successful project bids, crafting compelling proposals and assembling high-performing project teams.
  • Oversee financial management and reporting to ensure project profitability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive project solutions.

Bridge Inspection and Evaluation

  • Perform comprehensive inspections of existing bridges, identifying issues and suggesting suitable rehabilitation or replacement strategies.
  • Lead inspection teams, coordinating with specialized sub-consultants and preparing detailed inspection reports.
  • Conduct life cycle cost analyses to facilitate informed decision-making.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Implement effective quality control measures to reduce errors and defects.
  • Provide technical guidance to design and drafting teams.

Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate degree in Structural Engineering with a specialization in bridge engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in bridge engineering, including inspection, analysis, load-rating, design, and construction. Experience in seismic analysis and design is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia.
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian bridge design codes and standards, including CSA S6, as well as familiarity with AT, ON MOT, and BC MOTI standards.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and analysis software, such as CSI Bridge or MIDAS Civil.
  • Excellent technical report writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
