Job Summary

The Team:
The BC Timber Sales Stuart-Nechako Business Area's planning team consists of a dedicated group of Registered Professional Foresters and an Operations Technologist. This team collaborates to strategize timber development opportunities over a multi-year cycle within the designated business area. They engage closely with government personnel, industry stakeholders, Indigenous communities, and representatives from public resource user groups to formulate both strategic and tactical plans that align with the BCTS mandate. This innovative team is actively enhancing partnerships to improve planning processes and sustainable management practices to achieve business area objectives.

The Role:
The Forestry Planning Specialist will cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include developing and sustaining a long-term operational plan that adheres to legislative standards, overseeing field assessment contracts, and delivering comprehensive reports and outcomes to supervisors in alignment with business area objectives. Furthermore, this role involves providing support to other teams to ensure adherence to forestry regulations in BC and promoting responsible stewardship of forest resources within the Stuart-Nechako Business Area. This position offers significant career advancement opportunities by exposing candidates to a wide array of professional forestry responsibilities.

Qualifications:
  • A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or eligibility for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) andtwo (2) years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
Operational field forestry activities include:
  • Monitoring timber harvesting compliance
  • Development of cut-blocks
  • Engineering of forest roads
  • Silviculture practices
  • Administration of timber tenure
  • Integrated resource management planning
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence that does not limit or restrict job duties.
Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience in planning and integrated resource management.
  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous Peoples.
  • Relevant coursework or experience in contract or financial management.

About this Position:
This position can be based out of various locations. Flexible work options are available; this role may allow for remote work up to two days per week, subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies.
