Position Summary
The Project Controls Engineer will facilitate construction operations by strategizing, organizing, and executing management responsibilities (such as project controls systems, engineering coordination, subcontractor and materials oversight, procurement, and scheduling). This role will provide project administration or assist a Senior Project Engineer on larger initiatives and supervise technical and administrative personnel to ensure effective instruction management services.

District Overview
The Eastern Canada District's initiatives encompass highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric facilities, wind-power installations, dams & industrial projects. We cater to the construction and mining sectors and operate throughout Eastern Canada.

Location
This position will commence in the Greater Toronto Area but will necessitate travel/relocation to various projects across Canada and the United States. Only candidates who are open to relocating based on project needs will be considered for this position. Key Responsibilities
For the assigned tasks, develop a comprehensive understanding of contract plans and specifications. Assess field conditions and identify issues, inaccuracies, and cost-saving opportunities that may arise. Implement corrective measures as necessary. Review subordinates' work for adherence to contract plans and specifications, highlight deficiencies, and provide necessary corrective actions. Develop and maintain the project master schedule utilizing appropriate techniques and scheduling software with input from other project management personnel.

  1. Oversee document control; receive and log new issue drawings and other contract documents; maintain the document control log.
  2. Examine new issue drawings and contract documents for changes in conditions; assess the impact of changes and discuss with supervisor; distribute new issues to the field.
  3. Prepare monthly cost forecasts using data generated from project management systems and create quarterly cash flow projections.
  4. Enhance project operations by recommending improved methods, staffing, and procedural adjustments as appropriate.
  5. Act as the managing project engineer/coordinator on multiple projects, providing oversight and on-the-job training for junior engineers.
  6. Interpret and comprehend plans and specifications. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  7. Lead and support the project team, including direct reports and others as necessary. Promote the company's environmental health and safety initiatives at the project level, fostering a safety-oriented work approach.

Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a construction-related discipline or equivalent experience and education in project or field engineering. Professional Engineer designation is highly recommended. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction or engineering sector is required. A demonstrated willingness to relocate is essential. Experience in Infrastructure/Heavy Civil projects is mandatory. Proven capabilities in leadership and personnel management, effective communication (both verbal and written), planning, organization, delegation, as well as teaching and mentoring are necessary. Ability to establish standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for subordinates. Proficient knowledge and ability to manage at least the following systems: accounts payable/accounts receivable, materials control, estimating, job cost updates, and subcontracts.
