Job Summary

Dal Innovates is the strategic lead for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) programming within Dalhousie, delivering I&E programs with a focus on impact-driven innovation, deep science and technology or commercialization of research to students and researchers at Dalhousie and other universities across Atlantic Canada. Lab2Market is a suite of programs that aims to foster innovation and commercial success in Canada, and is a key component of Dal Innovates' suite of entrepreneurial offerings. L2M Validate is a 4-month program to help researchers validate their ideas with the purpose of finding business/commercial value. L2M Launch is an intensive 12-week accelerator program that brings together early stage entrepreneurial teams to launch ideas into viable businesses. Reporting to the Associate Director, L2M, the Program Managers will lead the planning, delivery, and management of the L2M Launch and Validate programs respectively, and are vital in empowering students to transform innovative ideas into sustainable ventures and preparing them to succeed in the global innovation economy.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the planning, execution, and management of Lab2Market programming, ensuring the successful delivery of all program components. This includes moderating weekly program sessions and meetings.
- Implement and manage the program content, schedules, and timelines. Manage the program budget and resources to ensure efficient allocation and compliance with funding requirements.
- Develop and implement the recruitment strategy to ensure an inclusive and broad recruitment effort, ensuring recruitment efforts are aligned with national L2M programming schedules and guidelines. Work with internal and external partners to promote the program and build awareness.
- Work closely with other Dalhousie L2M program managers and national program managers to ensure program consistency and alignment, and engage in program improvement efforts. Collaborate with facilitators, event managers, and ecosystem partners to ensure seamless execution of programs.
- Collect and analyze key metrics, such as participant engagement and program impact; evaluate outcomes; and report results, including reporting to senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

- Research-based Master's in a technical field such as life sciences or engineering plus at least three to five years' related experience working in program management (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Industry experience and connections to start-ups, executives, and investors as well as experience in stakeholder engagement including government, universities, companies, start-ups, researchers, clinicians, students, and ecosystem partners.
- Experience with venture management at an incubator, accelerator, or start-up; start-up methodologies including Lean Start-up, and Disciplined Entrepreneurship; program life cycle, contracting and vendor management; project management across multiple sites and stakeholders; and budgeting.
- Knowledge of customer discovery; business model development and validation.
- Excellent communication (verbal, written and presentation) and relationship-building skills.
- Strong time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills with experience working in dynamic, rapidly changing environments.
