Position Overview

Lead a dynamic group of engineers, technical staff, and Engineers in Training (EITs), supporting daily operations and long-term projects. Oversee key programs, including the Gas Lab, materials quality assurance, and the rotational EIT development program.

Provide leadership and support to cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth collaboration and effective project execution. Work closely with internal teams and external partners to keep communication strong and projects on track.

Responsibilities

- Supervise and provide leadership to a team of technical staff for ongoing operational support and capital projects.
- Provide direction and oversight to FortisBC’s Gas Lab business unit and system odourization plan.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and monitor staff work assignments to optimize resources.
- Participate in selecting, orientating, and training new employees, and provide coaching to support performance and development.
- Provide financial oversight, including management of costs associated with staff, facilities, software, vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, contractors, and municipal agencies.
- Develop annual resource plan requirements and collect forecasted project requirements to determine staff levels and skill sets.
- Develop relationships and liaise with key internal and external stakeholders, including engineering, regulatory, municipalities, and government agencies.

First Year Expectations

- Learn business processes and ongoing deliverables for each group within the team.
- Identify gaps in current processes and areas for improvement.
- Support staff in their technical development and improve oversight to support other business units.

Second Year Expectations

- Develop roadmaps for identified gaps in current processes and implement improvements.
- Support other groups within Engineering Services and identify opportunities for further technical support.
- Provide financial oversight of cost centers and manage costs associated with staff, facilities, tools, equipment, and contractors.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a relevant field, plus 8-12 years of related experience in a technical or supervisory capacity.
- Active registration with EGBC as a Professional Engineer.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering standards, project management skills, and gas compression and pipeline systems.
- Understanding of regulations and compliance within a utility environment.
- Previous project planning experience and project development required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
- Demonstrated analytical skills, budgeting principles, and economic analysis.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills utilizing collaborative methods.
