Role description:

Arcadis' Canadian Water Team is looking for dedicated, creative, and energetic entry-level Water Engineering Designers interested in tackling challenges and developing sustainable solutions for water and wastewater treatment, pumping station, infrastructure upgrades and expansion, asset management and condition assessment. Collaborating with our experienced water professionals, you will support and drive the development of projects, interact and work with clients, and develop your technical capabilities.

This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring the successful candidate to be on-site at our Markham, Ontario office at least 2-3 days per week.

Role accountabilities:

As an Entry Level Water Engineering Designer on our team, you will be involved in preliminary and detailed design and construction services engineering for a range of water facilities projects including water and wastewater industrial and municipal treatment, pumping, and storage. Your support will also extend to project management activities. Additionally, you will contribute to sustainability and resilience projects by conducting vulnerability assessments, mitigation planning, and designing solutions for our clients.

In the field, you will be responsible for performing various tasks such as site visits and assessments, water sampling, analyzing collected data, evaluating technologies, troubleshooting processes, and optimizing plant operations. Your expertise will be essential in gathering critical data and ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of water and wastewater systems.

In addition to the accountabilities mentioned above, you will also:

1. Support the process mechanical engineering team in the design of large municipal water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
2. Prepare preliminary and detailed designs in vertical infrastructure under the direction of the Project Manager.
3. Conduct hydraulic design calculations, size process equipment, and prepare design reports, specifications, process drawings, cost estimates, and tender documents.
4. Conduct condition assessments of existing facilities, commissioning design projects, troubleshooting performance issues, and providing support during construction services.
5. Support preparation of reports and presentations and participate in client meetings.
6. Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality, health and safety standards, and facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of projects on time and budget.
7. Work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to accommodate collaboration with team members across the U.S. and internationally.
8. Learn and use digital tools to enhance customer experience, team and client collaboration, and project delivery including configuration and deployment of SharePoint, Building Information Modeling (BIM), CAD, Power BI, and Augmented Reality.

Being self-motivated, team-oriented, and adaptable is important as you will need to navigate and address new challenges as they arise. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills will enable you to tackle complex issues and devise innovative solutions. Knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, and practices related to water/wastewater treatment, pumping is essential. Familiarity or experience with AutoCAD and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project are also valuable skills that will contribute to your success in this role.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelors of Applied Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related engineering discipline).

Preferred Qualifications:

- Prior work/internship experience at a design or consulting engineering firm or municipal work environment.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, Revit would be beneficial.
- Experience with BioWin, GPS-X would also be beneficial.

The salary range for this position is $56,000-84,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
