Shipping Lead – Guelph, ON Canada

Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager, the Shipping Lead oversees and coordinates all shipping department activities to ensure quality product packaging and accurate, timely, and cost-effective delivery of products to customers. This is a hands-on role responsible for supervising packaging and shipping staff, monitoring workflow, managing schedules, and ensuring compliance with company policies, safety standards, and shipping regulations. The Shipping Lead works closely with production, materials management, sales, and customer service teams to maintain efficiency and accuracy to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

- Supervise and lead daily operations of the shipping department, including order picking, packing, staging, and dispatching.
- Schedule and assign work to shipping personnel, ensuring adequate coverage and productivity.
- Access and manage carrier portals (e.g., FedEx, Purolator, UPS, DHL) to process shipments, input package dimensions and weights, and generate accurate shipping labels and documentation.
- Ensure all packaging specifications are met for each product, including proper box selection, cushioning materials, sealing methods, and special handling instructions.
- Prepare and print shipping labels, packing slips, commercial invoices, and any special documentation required for national and international shipments.
- Verify the accuracy of outgoing shipments, including product counts, packaging quality, and documentation.
- Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, and couriers to schedule pickups and track deliveries.
- Monitor shipping costs and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce expenses.
- Manage inventory levels of packaging and shipping materials; reorder as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, inventory movement, and department performance.
- Enforce compliance with workplace safety standards, shipping regulations, and company policies.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate shipping team members to build a skilled and motivated workforce.
- Collaborate with production, sales, and customer service teams to resolve delays, discrepancies, or shipping issues.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to streamline shipping processes, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, or business is an asset.
- 3+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of shipping procedures, carriers, and freight management.
- Proficiency in shipping software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and customer satisfaction.
