Build something people love

Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 3+ million users who trust us with more than $100 billion in assets.

Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas. We're looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.

The Corporate Development function at Wealthsimple is a lean, but high-impact team responsible for accelerating the company’s growth through mergers & acquisitions, investments, and strategic partnerships. As Director of Strategic Partnerships, reporting to the VP of Corporate Development, you will own the vision and execution of Wealthsimple’s corporate partnership strategy.

Your mandate is to drive meaningful business growth by setting and executing the partnership strategy that advances our product roadmap and expands our market reach and distribution. You will originate, evaluate, and pursue high-value partnership opportunities with both high-growth startups and leading financial services incumbents across Canada and international markets. You will design and negotiate complex, non-standard partnership structures that go beyond traditional commercial agreements, partnering closely with the Corp Dev deal team on bespoke transaction structures where required. You will cultivate executive-level relationships and own the full partnership lifecycle—from strategic thesis and deal origination through negotiation, structuring, and execution. Partnering closely with product, engineering, go-to-market, and other cross functional stakeholders, you will ensure each alliance is thoughtfully designed and delivers clear, measurable business outcomes.

In this role you'll have the opportunity to:

- Own the full partnership lifecycle—from strategic framing through prospecting, deal structuring, negotiation, execution, and ongoing relationship management.

- Design and execute bespoke structures, applying creativity in commercial and transaction design.

- Develop clear, compelling business cases that secure alignment and buy-in from senior leadership.

- Build and grow executive-level partner relationships across startups and financial services incumbents in Canada and international markets.

- Set and drive partnership strategy aligned with product roadmaps and corporate priorities, prioritizing opportunities based on long‑term strategic and economic value.

- Craft persuasive partnership narratives that clearly articulate mutual value and strategic fit.

- Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to implement the partnerships and ensure these deliver measurable business outcomes.

- Contribute to build / buy / partner analyses and broader Corp Dev initiative.

Skills you'll bring:

- 10+ years of experience in product / corporate / strategic partnerships, business development, or strategic alliances, preferably within FinTech or financial services.

- A strong ownership mindset with the ability to operate autonomously in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment.

- A proven track record of sourcing, structuring, negotiating, and scaling high‑impact partnerships, including non‑standard or bespoke arrangements.

- Executive‑level communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to influence across senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.

- Strong commercial and analytical acumen, including comfort with deal structuring, financial modeling, and data‑driven decision‑making.

- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, high‑priority initiatives simultaneously while leading large, cross‑functional teams.

- Excellent negotiation judgment, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving capabilities.

- A well‑developed external network across with financial services in Canada and internationally.

- Bonus: Experience with M&A transactions and valuation modeling, enabling effective support across acquisitions and investments as needed.
