Responsibilities
- Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended day classroom.
- Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff.
- Encourage children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self‑regulate.
- Support the children’s exploration, play and inquiry, both child‑initiated and adult‑supported.
- Support indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest and quiet time, into the day, and give consideration to the individual needs of the children receiving child care.
- Foster the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
- Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Foster an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected and supported.
- Support the health, safety, nutrition and well‑being of the children.
- Supervise and support children to ensure they are healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid and Emergency procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainment.
- Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
- First Aid with CPR Level C/AED or willingness to obtain this training as a condition of employment.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) that is current within 5 years if currently employed with the WRDSB; or current within 6 months for new employees.
- Must complete the Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health Health Assessment and applications, and provide proof of Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED.
- Criminal Background Check including the Vulnerable Sector must be received in Human Resources prior to commencement of employment.
- Provide Social Insurance Number (SIN), date of birth, and proof of educational qualifications at the time of an offer of employment.
