Accounting Specialist (Consumer Goods, Hybrid)

Our client, a leading Over-the-counter (OTC) and Health & Beauty (HABA) Distributor, located in Markham, ON is looking to hire an Accounting Specialist to join their team on a permanent, full-time basis.

This is a Hybrid role, currently requiring 2 days in office.

Reporting into the CFO, the Accounting Specialist will be responsible for account reconciliations and preparing monthly statements to present to principals. They will work closely with Client Managers to look into trade deductions and to identify any savings for the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounts Receivables

- Monitor customer accounts to ensure timely collection of outstanding balances.
- Follow up on overdue invoices through phone and email communications.
- Accurately post and apply customer payments (cheques, EFTs, wire transfers, etc.) in the system.
- Review and process chargebacks, deductions, and short payments.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to invoices, payments, or credits.
- Collaborate with the order desk, inventory, and logistics teams to resolve disputes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date AR aging reports.
- Process retailer deductions in compliance with agreements, policies, and procedures.

Accounts Payable

- Support month-end closing and reporting activities.
- Assist in preparing month-end statements for principals and address internal and external inquiries as needed.
- Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
- Process standard accruals.
- Support interim and year-end audit processes.
- Perform additional accounting tasks as required.

EDUCATION:

- Post-secondary education

REQUIREMENTS:

- Minimum 5 years of experience in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, preferably in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry.
- Solid understanding of collections, deduction management, and cash application.
- Managing collections, resolving discrepancies, and handling customer or internal inquiries.
- Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
- Data entry skills along with a knack for numbers.
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software.
- Proficiency in Excel.
