Vice President of Human Resources and Health/Safety

Reports to President and General Management as assigned

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR and Health/Safety Leadership

- Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures tailored to unionized operations

- Lead the development and implementation of strategic HR and health/safety initiatives

- Oversee the administration and interpretation of collective agreements including grievances

- Manage employee relations issues including conflict resolution, discipline, performance management

- Other related duties

Labour Relations and Collective Bargaining

- Act as the lead negotiator during collective bargaining representing the company interests effectively

- Oversee all aspects of collective agreement administration

- Manage grievance processes including preparation for arbitration proceedings

- Ensure compliance with Labour Relations Act 1995

Legal Compliance and Regulatory Adherence

- Employment Standards Act and other human rights legislation and applicable laws. Ensure compliance with ESA by overseeing hours of work, rest periods, pay policies, accurate employee records, etc.

- Occupational Health and Safety Act – ensure all prescribed equipment, materials are provided. Appoint competent persons as supervisors. Maintain and review the written occupational health and safety policy. Ensure all employees comply with all OHSA regulations. Oversee the Joint Health and Safety Committees.

Team Management and Development

- Provide leadership and guidance to the HR and Safety teams

Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field

- Certifications: Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Occupational Health and Safety Professional (COHSPROF)

- Must have several years of progressive HR experience in unionized environments and significant supervisory/ leadership experience.

- Strong understandings of the unique challenges of the remote multisite operations.

- Experience in the forestry sector is an asset.

Skills

- Ability to develop and implement strategic HR and HS initiatives

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities

- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment laws

- Exceptional negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills

Compensation

$95,000-$125,000 depending on experience and qualifications

Work Environment

This role requires a minimum of 44 hrs per week and availability at all times to travel to support our multisite operations across northern Ontario.
