Join a Leading Canadian University - Associate Vice-President, Financial Resources

The University of Ottawa is one of Canada's top research-intensive universities and the largest bilingual (English-French) institution in the world. Located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, it plays a vital role in the economic, cultural, and civic life of the nation's capital.

With over 48,000 students and more than 10,000 employees across 10 faculties, the University is committed to excellence in education, research, and service. To support this mission, it is seeking a strategic, visionary, and forward-thinking financial executive to lead a critical portfolio.

The Opportunity

The Associate Vice-President, Financial Resources (AVP) will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of the University's financial and procurement functions. Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Administration, and working closely with the Provost and other senior leaders, the AVP provides financial leadership and expert advice to support the institution's academic and administrative priorities.

The AVP oversees a broad range of portfolios, including:

  • Financial Operations

  • Financial Reporting

  • Research, Trust, and Endowment Accounting

  • Procurement Services

  • Financial Applications and Systems

This is a key leadership role in the ongoing transformation of administrative services, enabling enterprise-wide financial strategies that drive innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement.

The Ideal Candidate

You are a collaborative and service-oriented leader who thrives in a dynamic and collegial environment. You bring:

  • A minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in financial leadership, ideally within a large, complex institution

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, accounting, business administration)

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA)

  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic budgeting, financial operations, capital financing, procurement, and risk-informed decision-making

  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required.

Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of one of Canada's leading universities—contributing to excellence in education, research, and public service.
