HR Project Partners (HRPP) is seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Shop Foreperson to lead operations at a 12,000-square-foot maintenance facility in Argentia, NL. This full-time, on-site role supports a large fleet of heavy equipment and highway trucks, including brands such as John Deere, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Western Star, Kenworth, Peterbilt, and Freightliner, along with associated trailers.
The Maintenance Shop Foreperson will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and organization of several hundred pieces of equipment. This hands-on leadership position involves overseeing repairs, coordinating preventative maintenance activities, managing personnel, and supervising parts and logistics operations. The successful candidate will focus on operational priorities to keep projects running efficiently and on time.
This position requires a weekly commitment of 50 to 60 hours, structured around a 5-days-on, 2-days-off rotation. While relocation is preferred for candidates living outside the local area, accommodations can be arranged for those willing to commute to the site and return home during scheduled days off. A high level of organizational competence and the ability to manage both people and projects effectively are essential for success in this role.
Essential Job Functions:
Operations Management:
- Oversee daily operations of the facility and parts department ensuring maintenance workflows and priorities are efficiently managed.
- Direct all repair and preventative maintenance activities on a large fleet of heavy equipment and support vehicles.
- Implement and maintain scheduling systems to track and optimize maintenance cycles.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 12–15 mechanics, welders, parts department and subcontractors.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure team accountability and high performance.
- Resolve personnel issues and support team development.
- Lead daily team meetings to measure progress.
Fleet & Equipment Oversight:
- Monitor and report on progress of service and repair projects.
- Respond to urgent repair needs and delegate tasks accordingly.
- Interact with clients regarding equipment availability
- Work closely with project managers to assess repair needs, replacements, and provide technical guidance.
Client & Project Interaction:
- Act as a liaison between the faculty and external/internal clients regarding repair timelines, equipment availability, and service updates.
- Organize multiple active projects by aligning maintenance services with project demands and deadlines.
Technology & Systems:
- Utilize maintenance tracking programs such as Samsara, e-logs, data links on equipment and manage equipment records and service schedules.
- Maintain accurate documentation using Excel and other digital tools.
- Identify and implement technology solutions to improve maintenance and repaid operations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Previous experience in a Shop Foreman or Lead Hand role is asset.
- Experience working with heavy equipment and trucks is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with field supervisors, foremen, and project managers to support operational goals.
- Proven track record in managing teams and leading day-to-day operations, ideally within heavy equipment, construction, or industrial environments.
- Strong background in implementing and coordinating preventative maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
Knowledge, Skills, & Attributes:
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment repair, maintenance scheduling, and operational logistics.
- Executive-level decision-making ability with hands-on management style.
- Technologically proficient; comfortable with Excel and maintenance management systems.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
