Graduate Program Director: Digital Futures

- Reporting to the Vice-President Research & Dean, Graduate Studies and the Dean from their home faculty, the Interim Graduate Program Director (GPD), Digital Futures (DF) provides oversight and leadership for the Digital Futures graduate program. The GPD, DF oversees the overall delivery of program, such as admissions, course development, annual course offerings, recommendation of teaching assignments to Deans, and supervisory assignments. The GPD serves on the Graduate Studies Curriculum Committee and chairs the DF Graduate Program Committee (which also serves as the Program Admissions Committee). The GPD provides leadership in alignment with Academic Plan and its commitment to diversity and equity through hiring and curriculum development and supporting integration of Indigenous learning.

**Summary of Responsibilities**:

- The GPD, DF will work with the Vice-President Research & Dean, Graduate Studies, the Dean from their home faculty and the Graduate Program Committees to:

- Oversee student recruitment and admissions processes
- Advise and support graduate students; monitor and review their progress regularly
- Participate in graduate program reviews in compliance with the OCAD University Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP)
- Provide academic leadership in designated program areas and support the implementation of the Academic Plan and strategic priorities of the University
- Chair and regularly convene the Graduate Program Committee
- Oversee graduate examinations and thesis defenses
- Assist and support the arrangement of graduate exhibitions, colloquia, thesis exhibitions as appropriate
- Arrange for visiting speakers, artists, designers, and curators at OCAD U (if applicable)
- Recommend faculty for appointment to the graduate school
- Recommend to the Deans of the Faculties of Art, Design, and Arts & Sciences teaching assignments for their approval
- Liaise with Deans of the Faculties of Art, Design, and Arts & Sciences to coordinate supervisory assignments (as applicable)
- Provide information and support to program faculty regarding supervisory duties, the thesis process (if applicable), and other program elements
- Oversee the graduate supervisory relationship between faculty and students and facilitate the resolution of individual faculty and student matters as they arise
- Provide stewardship and continuity for existing relationships with donors and external partners/projects
- Participate in marketing and recruitment efforts, which includes updating marketing materials and developing program content for the OCAD University Website
- Contribute to fundraising efforts for student scholarships and bursaries
- Steward and operate within the established budgets for the program
- In conjunction with the Associate Deans, other GPDs, Studio Management, and IT Services and Facilities, support the management of facilities and allocation of resources and address issues arising from studio, computer and classroom facilities and ensure Health and Safety
- Ensure the academic excellence and integrity of the Digital Futures program, as well as alignment of all teaching and learning practices with academic standards and university policies (including but not limited to Graduate Studies Academic Policies)

**Qualifications**:

- Graduate degree in a relevant discipline (PhD preferred); professional practice/experience considered an asset
- Demonstrated academic leadership, collegiality and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to take initiative
- A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience with an excellent record of professional activity in a relevant discipline, as well as an affinity for cross-disciplinary dialogue and collaboration. Five (5) years of teaching at the post secondary level is considered an asset
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of students, faculty and staff, with student academic counselling experience an asset
- Understanding of OCAD U Strategic and Academic Plans
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational abilities
- Demonstrated understanding of the ways in which equity, diversity, Indigenous knowledge, and sustainability are fundamental to the quality of student experience, to innovative scholarship, and to creative practice

**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- The appointment will be made for three (3) years, from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027, with the possibility of renewal for an additional term. This position is only open to current OCAD U Faculty members with Tenure-Track or Tenured status

**REMUNERATION**:
This academic leadership role includes an annual administrative stipend, access to a research and travel allowance and administrative release (scheduling to be determined in consultation with the Vice-President Research & Dean, Graduate Studies and home faculty Dean.)
