**Main Purpose and Function**

**Specific Duties/Responsibilities**
- Performs technical planning work in the preparation of planning and design projects and, Reconciliation in parks and recreation.
- Performs special research tasks in landscape architecture, parks and recreation policies and operational practices, park planning, park development, recreation and environmental planning, and statistics
- Compiles and analyzes statistics, and precedents in support of specific aspects of planning such as: land use; park planning and design; park and recreation distribution and use; recreation facility design, distribution and use; park and recreation utilization data; environmental data and population. Also identifies data trends; interprets and explains data and presents in a suitable format; develops and maintains databases; converts data from external sources into standard databases and spreadsheets.
- Prepares a variety of graphic materials such as charts, tables, plans and maps for inclusion in reports, public consultation materials and staff presentations; ideally uses GIS software to generate routine and non-routine spatial data queries.
- Prepares, supervises and participates in analyses and reports on specialist engagement surveys.
- Assists supervisors in design and planning of projects relative to large-scale plans, studies, developments or detailed investigations including supporting and implementing pubic engagement activities.
- Advises and assists superiors on questions and problems relating to own field of specialization.
- May answer technical, written or oral inquiries of other departments or the public.
- May accompany senior officials of the Board of Parks and Recreation to report presentations and meetings of similar nature as an aide and/or prepares and delivers presentations to professional work groups related to data analysis and interpretation.
- May assign and/or check work of junior staff.
- Other duties as required.

**Qualifications**
Education and Experience:
University degree in a field related to landscape architecture, physical planning, or recreation planning. Both a university degree and some professional experience in a relevant field or fields per above, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Knowledge in parks, recreation and environment policy, research and analysis relating to strategic and/or long-range planning
- Some knowledge of basic research techniques, statistics and, preferably, electronic data processing.
- Familiarity with and interest in principles and practices with reconciliation and decolonization
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); ability to use ArcGIS is preferred
- Ability to present work results, conclusions and recommendations in both graphic and written form
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, other employees and officials
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to direct and supervise the work of subordinates when required.

**Organization**
