Main Purpose and Function

The Planning Analyst provides technical, analytical, and graphic support to the Community Planning Division. This group is responsible for developing and implementing the City's community and area plans, including complex land use, policy, and projects. The Planning Analyst supports the implementation of the Vancouver Plan, focusing on streamlining and consolidating existing downtown policies. Additionally, this position supports ongoing planning efforts on Granville Street and other community planning initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on planning and policy issues, sourcing and developing property, demographic, and statistical information to support planning initiatives.
  • Support qualitative and quantitative analysis of environmental, economic, and demographic data for use in projects and evaluating city community plans.
  • Collect, manage, and interpret various data sources, including GIS, MapInfo, and ArcGIS software.
  • Develop and conduct in-depth research and analyses on land use and policy topics.
  • Write reports and technical papers for senior staff in PDS and other departments.
  • Organize and facilitate public consultation processes.
  • Develop informational and graphic materials for public open houses, workshops, and Council reports.
  • Summarize public consultation processes and survey results for senior staff and the public.
  • Maintain and update websites and coordinate social media outreach.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • University graduation and some professional experience in urban planning or a related field.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the City's community and area plans, environmental/sustainability policies, and zoning regulations.
  • Working knowledge of GIS software and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, research and analytical abilities, and experience in planning-related research, data, monitoring, policy analysis, and communication.
  • Advanced graphic skills and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and other design-related software.
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with the public.
