**Your Opportunity**:

- Serving as connector and coach, the Consultant shall work, alongside Edmonton Unlimited’s Head of Startup and PSI Specialist, within a team of executives in residence (EIRs) and relevant innovation service providers/partners in Edmonton and elsewhere (as applicable). The Consultant will advise and support students and staff who are potential innovators and founders building technology-based businesses at the following Edmonton post-secondary institutions: NAIT, Concordia University of Edmonton, NorQuest College Edmonton Campus, University of Alberta, MacEwan University, The King’s University, Athabasca and Yellowhead Tribal College (the “Post-Secondaries”)
- The EIR will be dispatched to the post-secondaries based on demand for their specific expertise through office hours and bespoke support to serve the needs of the post-secondary innovators and founders. The objective of the EIR will be to educate founders, identify research and business ideas with potential for growth and/or support companies growing out of the post-secondary institution.
- The team of EIRs - as a collective - will possess a diverse set of skills and expertise that can be shared across PSIs including:
**IP strategy**
- Patents
- Trademarks
- Copyrights
- Licensing

**Your Key Accountabilities**:

- Serves as a point of contact for innovative students (undergraduate and graduate), research associates, faculty members and staff at one or more post-secondaries in the Edmonton area.
- Works with the other EIRs to serve all the post-secondaries in Edmonton Unlimited’s Post-Secondary programs by attending weekly meetings to assess the opportunities encountered and provide guidance to companies as a collective based on skill sets that are on the team.
- Provides mentorship and/or advice on transforming technology-based research and ideas with business potential into viable products and services, with emphasis on those business opportunities that have the greatest potential for technology-enablement, scale up, and commercialization. This may include:

- Referrals to organizations that will suit the needs of the technology, innovation and/or innovator.
- Articulating/communicating/deciphering the ‘product-market fit’ of new goods and services.
- Provision of mentorship and advice regarding commercialization pathways, developing business goals and monitoring performance.
- Partial support and development of viable business plans and revenue models.
- Advice on intellectual property strategies, and provision of introductions to lead customers and potential investors.
- Holds in person (where applicable) office hours one half day per week.
- Refers students, researchers and/or staff to relevant programs managed by Edmonton Unlimited, and other applicable programs offered by partners and fellow service providers in the community.
- Is an ambassador for Edmonton Unlimited
- Is a key liaison with Edmonton Unlimited program leads, ensuring alignment on expectations and goals.
- Provides timely submission of pre-defined metrics and other reporting requirements including presentations to funders.
- Complies with all data entry requirements with Edmonton Unlimited's customer relationship management software and/or other data systems.
- Attends other meetings with Edmonton Unlimited, as required.
- Networks with research, innovation and entrepreneurship leads (e.g., AVPs, tech transfer officers, incubator leads, entrepreneurship faculty, etc.) within the post-secondaries, individually and as a collective.
- Seeks opportunities support business creation, product validation, and collaboration among the post-secondaries.
- Encourages a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.

**Your Credentials**:

- Previous experience in business coaching and advising, especially on technology commercialization pathways preferably in post-secondary settings.
- Experienced entrepreneur or an individual who was a previous innovator/founder from a post-secondary institution or has supported post-secondary innovation is an asset.
- Deep understanding of post-secondary culture and navigation.
- Demonstrated capabilities regarding leadership, accountability, judgement, decision-making, problem solving, independent action and cultural adaptability.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
