The Executive Associate is a new role within the North Zone and this position has two functions with 0.5 FTE dedicated to providing day-to-day support and guidance to the North Zone (NZ) Physician Lead Executive by helping them keep organized and prepared in their role as a primary care leader. The remaining 0.5 FTE will support the NZ Primary Care Networks, physician not-for profit boards and other primary care stakeholders in maintaining and sustaining accountable and effective governance. The position will be responsible for facilitating, coordinating and delivering board governance training in a primary care setting with physicians, Alberta Health Services partners and other stakeholders; conducting board assessments and advising on board development and performance plans; assisting and/or advising boards with performance appraisals and processes of their Primary Care Network leadership.
- This position works independently and requires sound judgement, common sense and is expected to carry out duties with mínimal instruction or supervision. This position is required to function at a senior level to ensure completeness of all work product, projects and initiatives.- Key Responsibility 1: Leadership and support to Physician Lead Executive
- Functions as the right hand of the physician lead to ensure the lead is successful in their duties and obligations on various zone and provincial committees/task groups
- Provides a confidential sounding board of ideas, plans and policy matters and offers expert knowledge, advice, critical analysis, options and alternate approaches
- Conceives, crafts and edits communication messages in consultation with the Physician Lead
- Reduces the administrative burden and time experience by the physician lead with superior organization and planning.
- Researches, investigates and problem-solves concerns or issues that arise with critical thinking and sound judgement by maintaining ongoing situational awareness of internal and external risks
- Communicates and work collaboratively with the physician lead for their ultimate decision or approval
- Provides financial support and management (expense, invoices and basic accounting) to ensure reimbursement to physician lead
- Key Responsibility 2: Support Training in Accountable and Effective Governance
- Provide support and coordination of primary care governance training to physician not-for-profit boards, joint venture partners and other primary care network stakeholders on maintaining and sustaining accountable and effective governance
- Collaborate with AMA ACTT on the delivery of governance training and where required, supplement training needs to meet stakeholder demands and timelines
- Building and fostering effective collaborative relationships to ensure that boards and primary care stakeholders are diligent in managing their obligations with board assessments and/or performance appraisals
- Key Responsibility 3: External Stakeholder Engagement
- Establishes excellent and productive working relationships with all stakeholders both internal and external
- Proactively pursues opportunities to engage with external stakeholders to increase breadth and depth of knowledge to provide support and guidance
- Understands and uses ongoing relationships and networks to develop strategies and plans that support Primary Care Networks and their boards
- Collaborates with all stakeholders to support primary care

- A degree in Business, Public Health Administration or related from a recognized post-secondary institute
- 5-7 years of work experience at a senior level supporting executives and/or leaders
- Experience working in health care is required
- Exceptional management and leadership skills
- Equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and expertise may be considered
- Experience in delivering training/education to adult learners
- Familiarity and comfort with a variety of technology platforms and tools
