Communications plays a leading role in strengthening awareness and building brand for the University’s mission and goals. The Faculty seeks to be recognized for its innovation programs, leading edge research and outstanding student experience. The unit articulates and delivers Western Engineering’s central messages in a clear, consistent, engaging and strategic manner and manages the positioning, image and reputation of the faculty.

**Responsibilities**:
The Digital Communications Specialist will be responsible for carrying out a variety of marketing and communications related activities, with a specific focus on the delivery of internal and external digital communications for the Faculty of Engineering, and on outreach, recruitment and engaging Women in Engineering. The role will assist with designing, creating, distributing and assessing digital communications and marketing content across a number of social media channels, ensuring that messages are on-brand, articulated persuasively in social channels of strategic importance, and resonate with various audiences, with a goal of building and promoting Western Engineering's brand and reputation locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Digital Communications Specialist will also assist with developing and maintaining digital marketing and communication processes and practices, with a focus on positioning Western Engineering as one of the leading Canadian research-intensive Engineering schools, internationally recognized for excellence and the impact of its research, and for providing students with enriching and high quality undergraduate and graduate programs. The role will protect, promote, and enhance the reputation of the University and its people by providing expert advice and guidance regarding digital communication plans and related projects that is consistent with all relevant University guidelines.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Public Relations, Graphic Design of related program
- Post graduate diploma in communications, media studies, marketing, public relations or related program would be an asset
- Completion of, or working towards, International Association of Business Communicators Designation is preferred
- Experience:
- 3 years of experience in a marketing and/or communication role, successfully developing and implementing digital and social media strategies, content, and projects in a dynamic environment
- Experience operating various professional 4K video, cameras, and sound equipment
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated photography and videography skills, including production planning, scripting, filming plans and related logistics with the ability to use photography and video editing software to tell a wide range of stories
- In-depth knowledge of e-communication tools including website, social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter) and graphic design principles
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with editing programs (Adobe Creative Suite/InDesign, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro), with content management systems (such as Cascade), and with file management and transfer systems
- Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines under the Accessibility for Ontarian’s with Disabilities Act
- In-depth knowledge of communications and marketing best practices, processes, trends, and tools relevant to student populations
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Compelling and persuasive communication and presentation skills to engage individuals and teams inside and outside the University
- Ability to analyze metrics and consider past communications to craft engaging written communications using social media or other appropriate channels
- Innovative and flexible critical thinking skills to adjust to and implement new processes or technology to the University’s advantage

- Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with public relations issues related to higher education
