MacEwan University has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and skilled Strategic Initiatives Coordinator with MacEwan’s Office of the President. In this full-time continuing position reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will lead, coordinate, implement, track, and complete projects and events that are in support of the strategic vision and priorities of the institution. Often your work may be confidential, will require tact and nuance, and require balancing of multiple priorities.
You will support the Chief of Staff in providing strategic advice and information and responding to various current and emerging issues for the Office of the President and broader institution. As such, the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator is regularly entrusted with confidential information and must be flexible to respond to changing priorities in a challenging and dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinate with the Chief of Staff to identify, develop and refine initiatives supporting the institution’s strategic objectives.
- Maintain full life cycle ownership for projects and initiatives as assigned, including project planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and reporting and issues and change management.
- Play a key role in leading or supporting institutional events (e.g. State of the University Address, Chancellor Speaker Series)
- Prepare and/or contribute to developing university-wide strategic documents and institutional annual reporting (e.g. Institutional Strategic Plan, Annual Report, etc.)
- Develop documents, presentations, and speaking notes to support and advance strategic priorities of the University
- Develop positive, effective working relationships within and among areas across the university and identify opportunities for internal collaboration and consultation with faculties, schools, administrative units, and service areas.
- Raise urgent and/or sensitive issues while assessing options, implications and risks and provide recommendations to the Chief of Staff for consideration and/or decision-making.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current principles and procedures of higher education strategic planning, communications, issues management, and institutional effectiveness.
- Ability to gather data, investigate, analyze, and synthesize information to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Results-oriented quality with the ability to multitask, take initiative, demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing situations and priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Demonstrated political and business acumen, diplomacy, and tact when dealing with senior leaders, as well as other colleagues within and outside the institution.
- Thorough understanding of project management principles, methods, and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and, as appropriate, make decisions on projects and issues that may be sensitive, time-sensitive, and/or confidential.
