**Your role**

Radio-Canada News and Current Affairs is looking for a national cross-platform (television-radio-digital) Assignment Editor for a 12 months expected need.

As Assignment Editor based in Montreal, you will coordinate the work of reporters assigned to cover regional, national or international news for all our platforms as needed. You must also determine story angles for event coverage and generate original ideas for content.

**For reference purposes, you will be mostly coordinating the news coverage on the week-end, with shifts from Thursday to Sunday (full-time).**

This position requires someone with initiative, creativity, strong editorial judgment, leadership skills and the ability to work well under pressure while maintaining respectful relationships with your colleagues.

**You may also be asked to perform the following tasks**:

- Follow local, national and international news from different sources.
- Encourage reporters to come up with their own story ideas.
- Choose which events will be covered during the day, find and discuss potential story angles with reporters and prepare the assignment schedule.
- Attend planning meetings for day-to-day, upcoming and special-event coverage.
- Coordinate reporters’ work. Discuss with reporters what story angles to pursue and direct them accordingly. Find original story angles for covering news events.
- Assess the feasibility of producer and lineup editor requests based on production imperatives.
- Closely follow developing stories. Respond quickly to new developments in the field.
- Line up radio reports for the morning newscasts.
- Have estimates prepared for special coverage; review and present them to management.
- Commission reports from other newsrooms. Review reporters’ items and live hits when they go to air.
- Ensure that items under your responsibility scheduled to air in newscasts are ready on time.
- Coordinate the work of a researcher.
- Perform, as needed, the duties of reporter and lineup editor.
- Vet and edit reporters’ copy.
- Ensure that information aired complies with CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
- Carry out any other related task.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Seven (7) years’ journalism experience or equivalent
- Experience as a newsroom assignment editor is an asset

**Skills**:

- Extensive general knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of Quebec, national and international affairs
- In-depth knowledge of newsroom logistics
- Detailed knowledge of the digital and radio news production cycle
- Solid understanding of the various platforms
- Excellent knowledge of French
- Advanced oral proficiency, intermediate writing proficiency and advanced reading proficiency in English (CBC)
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Strong self-starter
- Ability to maintain cordial relationships with colleagues
- Ability to analyze, synthesize and think critically about complex issues
- Initiative, creativity and flexibility
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
