Position Overview:
The Manager, Ability Management works within the organization to lead the development of the ability management processes; creating leading edge practices that focus on active internal management of claims, and successful and timely return to work. In addition, the Manager is responsible to design, plan, administer and manage disability services including the development of practices, promotion of return to work concepts and program evaluation.

**Job Description**:

- Lead ability management team and provide advice and recommendations in the development and implementation of ability management protocols and programs.
- Facilitate and promote early intervention and early return to work programs thereby providing cost effectiveness of ability management programs. This includes the coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of return to work plans and successes.
- Interpret and explain legislation, programs and initiatives to management. Ensure ability management initiatives are in line with legislation, regulatory frameworks and legal precedent.
- Develop, implement and coordinate the delivery of ability management and return to work programs, defining objectives and establishing roles, responsibilities and processes, and monitoring and reporting mechanisms. Report on the implementation of, and compliance with the requirements of the program in order to develop and ultimately implement recommendations for the program involvement.
- Provide guidance and direction regarding ability management to key stakeholders including developing and implementing communication plans that identify the communication priorities of the program including the development of various communication products.
- Intervene and seek resolution of program or ability claim-related conflicts and develop responses to, and advise on, complex situations to managers, HR Services, other internal stakeholders and third-party service providers.
- Design dashboard and reporting metrics for ability management.
- Identify and implement realistic cost containment strategies.

Education & Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in related field plus diploma or certificate in Disability Management (is an asset/preferred).
- 10 years in disability management with experience in a leadership role.
- Direct experience working in disability in a multi-union environment with a geographically distributed workforce.
- Direct experience with drug and alcohol programs.
- Through understanding and experience in drug and alcohol programs including the involvement in the management of referrals for inpatient facilities, return to work drug and alcohol testing and unannounced testing programs.
- Demonstrated customer service, organization and decision making skills.
- Experience administering Benefit and Pension plans considered an asset
