**Position Overview**

This full-time position is responsible for providing safety and health knowledge, advice, training, and support to healthcare organizations for the Manitoba Association for Safety in Healthcare Inc. (MASH). This includes assisting with the development and delivery of strategies to improve service levels and improving efficiencies throughout Manitoba’s public healthcare system.

The Health & Safety Associate is responsible for assisting with the establishment and evaluation of the goals and objectives for services that align with the elements and sub elements of the Manitoba Healthcare Safety Management System and Industry Based Safety Program. This position is expected to assist with ensuring all program initiatives, including existing and new health and safety training programs, comply with all MASH policies, corporate identity, and all related legislation. This position is responsible for supporting Manitoba Healthcare Employers in the implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement in Safety Management System practices. A key expectation of this position is to build and nurture relationships with the health care industry.

This position reports to the director of safety programs and participates as an active member of the MASH team.

**Education**
- Occupational Health & Safety education, certification (achieved or pursuing) and experience.
- Professional safety designation such as CRSP, CRST (achieved or pursuing or willingness to attain).
- Knowledge of provincial Occupational Health, Environmental Health, and Safety and The Manitoba Employment Standards Act, The Manitoba Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other related legislation.
- Knowledge of Safety Management Systems, safety education and training resources.
- Previous experience in healthcare environments an asset.
- Knowledge of CSA Psychological Safety and Health standard an asset.

**Experience**
- A minimum of 1 (one) year of health and safety experience, with demonstrated skills and abilities to advise, train, and support healthcare organizations across Manitoba.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Assist in the identification, customization and development of health and safety program elements for implementation in the healthcare system.
- Assist and guide member organizations on implementation of their health and safety program.
- Coordinate and complete internal health and safety audits for our members looking to achieve MASH certification.
- Assist safety advisor with safety and health management gap analysis and develop work plans for members to address identified gaps.
- Provide guidance and knowledge within the MASH team on safety and health items, including monitoring for changes to standards and legislation.
- Deliver safety and health training online, or in-person in Winnipeg and across Manitoba.
- Assist with the creation of new training content and review/revise current training content.
- Assist the director of safety programs and/or safety advisor with other duties as assigned.
- Effective strategic thinking, decision making, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships with MASH members, stakeholders, and other external organizations.

**Conditions of Employment**
- This position requires travel within the province.
- Valid Class 5 vehicle driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Able to deliver in-person training for a full day, including being on your feet for eight hours.

**About MASH**

The Manitoba Association for Safety in Healthcare Inc. (MASH) is Manitoba’s new healthcare specific industry-based safety program (IBSP) and certifying partner for healthcare organizations. Its main purpose is to educate employers and improve the health and safety of workers in Manitoba workplaces that are part of the healthcare industry. MASH will provide relevant, customized services that respond to the diverse needs, hazards and risks specific to healthcare with an in-depth understanding and targeted strategies to support safe, productive workplaces. These programs will provide valuable services that make it easier for employers and employees to receive safety and health information, resources and training tailored to the risks and hazards of their specific industry.
