Reporting to the Director, Security Services & Parking Operations, the Manager of Security Services is responsible to provide direction, leadership, support and guidance in all aspects of the overall planning and day to day operations of the Security Department for all St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton campuses and its Satellite locations. The Manager of Security Services will be contributing to senior decision making at the strategic level for Security staffing, systems, services and operations that align organizational needs with resources.
The Manager of Security Services provides overall direction, guidance and supervision to all security services departmental staff and is able to operate within a multi-disciplinary team structure at various levels of the organization to introduce and facilitate change.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Minimum completion of a 3-year diploma in Law and Security or Police Foundations
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Law is preferred
- Must have a valid license as a Security Guard under the Private Security and Investigations Branch
- Minimum 10 years practical, theory, and on the job-related experience required; Security Supervisor and/or Manager experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to the values of service, Responsible Stewardship, Community Responsiveness and Respect
- Proven Management Training/Education/Experience
- Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent
- Certificate in Use of Force and tactical handcuffing is preferred
- Through knowledge of investigative techniques, mediation skills and alternate dispute resolution methods
- Courses or certificates in regards to leadership development and team building
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing development
- Excellent customer service skill, formal training would be an asset
- Willing to take charge in emergency situations/accepts responsibility
- Through knowledge of the Criminal Code, applicable Provincial statues and Municipal By-laws
- Strong leadership, analytical, interpersonal, written and verbal skills
- Technical knowledge of alarm systems, CCTV systems and electronic access systems
- Demonstrated expertise in integration and partnerships with hospital/community sector and an understanding of transitional issues between health care environments
- Excellent leadership skills in people management, issue management and team development
- Demonstrated ability in effective communication, collaborative problem solving, conflict management and negotiation
- Significant knowledge of Security Industry Resources

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
In fulfilling the mandate of this role, the Manager of Security Services will:

- Hire, promote, discipline and terminate staff as required
- Manage employee relations issues, promoting a team work environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently
- Maintain all training records for staff
- Ensure all training is up to date for staff
- Certify and Re-certify staff as required with relevant training requirements such as Crisis Management and Effective Communication
- Scheduling of staff to ensure proper compliment for regular and special duties
- Manages the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives which are in alignment with established SJHH standards
- Monitor quality improvement outcomes on a regular basis; develop actions plans to address identified issues i.e. safety plans, risk assessments etc
- Coaches staff to ensure continuous quality improvement initiatives are incorporated into day to day activities
- Provides support, guidance and consultation on a variety of issues related to staff, public and patient services
- May serve as the Incident Manager (IMS structure
