**Unit Summary**

**Position Summary**

The Core Laboratory Manager is responsible for the Core Lab and Specimen Collection Centres at Juravinski, and the Hamilton General sites.

The Core Laboratory manager works collaboratively with the Director of Operations, Discipline Director and other Professional staff to provide clear leadership to the Core Laboratory Supervisors and staff. The Manager will be responsible for assisting with the development of department strategic and operational plans in alignment with the mission, values, vision and strategic goals of the HRLMP. In consultation with the Director of Operations, the Manager is responsible for the planning and preparation of the annual departmental operating budget, the management of human, financial and capital resources while operating within the current budgetary restraints. This position will support and mentor the supervisors in the day-to-day operations related to the delivery of the laboratory services, research and education. the Manager will ensure that the services provided by the department are coordinated in partnership with clinical programs and services. Responsibilities include: participates in short and long-term capital and operating plan development and contributes to the program's business plan for meeting clinical and academic program needs, ensures safe and effective operations by maintaining and improving performance standards, facilitates the consolidation and redesign of the Core Laboratory, responsible for recruitment, retention, recognition and performance management of all Core laboratory technical staff, assist in promoting an environment which supports staff development, coordinates the investigation and assessment of new technologies specific to the Core Laboratory, collaborates with the Purchasing departments in the negotiation of supply and service contracts. The Manager will develop and maintain a personal education program that supports continuing improvement in the role of Core Laboratory Manager and will perform other duties as assigned or requested.

**Schedule Work Hours**

Monday to Friday; days (weekend and statutory holiday call as per the Laboratory management rotation)

**Qualifications**

Registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
2. Advanced Registered Technologist or Bachelor of Science in a related science or Bachelor of Technology
3. Degree/Certificate from a recognized Health Management Program preferred
4. Previous management experience and knowledge of Core Laboratory concepts
5. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the integration of teaching, research and service in a changing health care
environment through effective management of resources
6. Demonstrated excellence in communication, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
7. Knowledge of principles of Lean Sigma methodology
