**Position Summary**:
The Kitchen Assistant supports the preparation and delivery of meals as needed, ensuring adherence to food safety standards and maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment. This role involves assisting with meal preparation, monitoring food quality, washing dishes and ensuring that all kitchen practices meet standards. The Kitchen Assistant will also support the packaging and delivery of meals, contribute to the maintenance of kitchen inventory, and participate in agency activities as needed.

- **Physical Stamina**: The ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and working in a hot environment.
- **Communication Skills**: Clear and effective communication with team members, including the ability to listen to instructions and ask questions when necessary.
- **Reliability and Punctuality**: Consistent attendance and readiness to work at scheduled times, ensuring that kitchen operations run smoothly.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals and food items under the guidance of the Kitchen Supervisor/Chef and/or Kitchen Coordinator.
- Monitor food quality through visual inspection, temperature control, and sample tasting, ensuring compliance with food safety guidelines.
- Assist in the packaging of meals and the packing of meal delivery bags, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Regularly clean and sanitize delivery bags, maintaining the highest standards of hygiene.
- Conduct and maintain daily sanitation practices, following established maintenance procedures to ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment.
- Wash and properly store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Take inventory of current supply stocks as needed, reporting any shortages or concerns to the Kitchen Supervisor/Chef and/or Kitchen Coordinator.
- Deliver meals to clients as required.
- Provide additional support to the team as required, including assisting with special events or activities.
- Participate in agency meetings, training sessions, and other activities to stay informed and engaged with the organization's mission.
**Preferred Qualifications & Experience**:
- Previous experience or knowledge of commercial kitchen operations is preferred.
- Knowledge and skills in food safety, healthy cooking, and nutrition are essential.
- Familiarity with the use of commercial kitchen equipment, including dishwashers, ovens, stove tops, and cold storage units.
- Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently as part of a team.
- A passion for working with seniors and individuals with disabilities.
- Current Food Handlers’ and First Aid Certificates are considered assets.
- A valid “G” Driver’s Licence.
- Physical ability to lift and move boxes and equipment (up to 30lbs).
- Ability to work positively in a shared kitchen environment.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector criminal reference check is required for this position.
**Working Conditions**:
The role requires standing for extended periods and may involve lifting heavy items.
Work may involve exposure to varying temperatures in the kitchen and storage areas.
