Reporting to the Regional OHS Manager - Western Canada, the OHS Advisor works with employees throughout the organization to drive forward our purpose of providing Peace of Mind to our clients and our employees. **The Role**

As an Occupational Health and Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of traffic control personnel on their sites and making sure that said sites are compliant with transport guidelines, including the Ministry of Transportation Traffic Management Manual, Worksafe OHS Regulations and the company’s own OHS guidelines. A major touchpoint for employees, you will help answer any questions and/or concerns they may have regarding the safety of their site and job as a whole.

In this role, you will conduct site visits to ensure the safety of the site and the personnel on said site. You will also help employees improve their ability to safely conduct their work by coaching them on safety procedures and ensuring they are knowledgeable about regulations and guidelines pertaining to road safety. In more extreme cases, this role may involve shutting down of sites, drug and alcohol suspicion checks and investigations to ensure the safety of all parties on a work site.

**What you will be responsible for**:
**_
Supporting Field Staff_**
- Support and coach field staff in the safe operation of their duties.
- Engage in conflict resolution to de-escalate difficult situations.
- Administer training and facilitate timely corrective actions for safety shortcomings on site.
- Perform TCP (Traffic Control Person) duties to cover employee breaks/shortages.
- Administer first aid if necessary.

**_ Investigation Work_**
- Conduct site inspections regularly to ensure safety compliance.
- Complete investigations into accidents, unsafe acts on-site, etc.
- Conduct Drug and Alcohol reasonable checklists and, if necessary, send employees for Drug and Alcohol testing.

**_ Administrative Activities_**
- Liaise with clients to ensure regulatory compliance and safety of Universal staff on sites.
- Assist with internal COR audits.
- Review Health & Safety related documentation.
- Assist in the development and communication of Safe Work Practices and Procedures.

**_ Company Program Facilitation_**
- Facilitate the Universal Mentorship Program (UMP).
- Facilitate the Universal Group’s Injured Worker Engagement Program.

**What we need from you**:

- Certified as a Traffic Control Person (TCP) by a WorkSafeBC approved training provider. Experience working as a TCP is a strong asset.
- Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Experience with Office 365 and G-Suite.
- BCCSA Certified COR Internal Audit or willingness to obtain.
- Level 2 First Aid or willingness to obtain.
- Diploma/Certificate and/or previous work experience in Occupational Health and Safety is an asset.
- Certification and/or work experience as a CSO or OFA is an asset.
- Experience with Health and Safety software is an asset.
