Location: Stackpole International Fluid Power Solutions Services
Reports To: Engineering Manager
SCOPE:
Responsible for the Program Management of new product development initiatives. By taking a leadership role, working closely with the customer and suppliers as well as internal technical resources, manage all aspects of product design (CAD) and APQP development, customer liaison, supplier development and management, prototyping, inspection, and testing of automotive oil pump development projects. Contribute to the growth of the business by assisting in the continuous improvement effort of design, analysis and testing capabilities.
RESULTS:
- Customer satisfaction with development projects
- Technical expertise in design and testing of oil pumps
- Accurate and error free CAD designs (optimized for cast, quality and manufacturability)
- Functional prototypes developed on time which meet customer and blue print requirements
- Fully developed product designs optimized for both internal and supplier manufacturing processes
- Technically accurate test reports
- Successful product launches
- Development of AQP systems that are ISO/IATF 16949 and customer compliant
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Effective program management and completion of APQP activities associated with the implementation of new programs including supplier management, capital equipment vendor management, and APQP team management in order to ensure the integrity and robustness of new product launches
- Lead cross-functional team to ensure on-time and on-budget launches
- Manage program commercial issues
- Direct CAD designers on product models and detailed prints.
- Verify accuracy of CAD models and prints per program specifications
- Use of DFM, DFA, concurrent engineering to optimize designs
- Play a leadership role in the multi-disciplinary approach to product design/development
- Drive product innovation in pursuit of Intellectual Property and Processes
- Acquisition of materials and services required within projects
- Implement test programs: verification of hydraulic and acoustic pump performance
- Oversee and participate in pump testing programs to ensure quality and accuracy of results
- Submit written reports to customers detailing results or progress of projects
- Prototype part and process supervision (internal production, suppliers, inspections)
- Customer contact / liaison (verbal, written, presentations)
- Maintain and improve hardware and software used on systems for design, CAD, and testing
- Continuous development of leading edge pump technology
- Co-ordination use of Automotive Systems including APQP, PPAP, and QOS as per IATF 16949 standards as they relate to Product Development
- Follow 5S and organizational guidelines
- Develop CI ideas to improve the departmental systems
- Work in compliance with Stackpole FPS Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems
QUALIFICATIONS:
- An undergraduate degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering (P.Eng. status preferable) or appropriate combination of education & relevant work experience
- 5 yrs minimum experience in automotive design and development
- 5 yrs minimum experience in program management
- Experience in mechatronics an asset
- Understanding of automotive IATF 16949 operating systems
- Proficient in understanding of CAD Documents, datum structures, GD&T, and design stacks
- Excellent communications, negotiating, conflict management, and problem solving skills
- Experience developing requirements and processes for product validation
- Knowledge base in casting, forging, grinding, machining, and other secondary processes
- 3D CAD design
- 6-Sigma/Lean Manufacturing background
- CMM and SPC knowledge
- Testing knowledge
- Experience in equipment procurement
- Computer skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS project
- Excellent customer liaison skills
- Works well in team environment
