**Job Summary**
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Safety Officer to join our team. Safety is responsible for overseeing and managing all safety-related activities within the transportation department. This includes developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with safety programs and policies to protect the health and safety of drivers, operators, and other employees involved in the transportation process. The role requires a combination of regulatory knowledge, risk management skills, and leadership to promote a safe and efficient transportation.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Safety Program Development and Implementation**:

- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and programs that align with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, FMCSA).
- Ensure policies are kept up to date in response to regulatory changes.
- Create and maintain safety training programs for drivers and other employees working in the transportation sector.

- **Compliance and Regulatory Management**:

- Monitor compliance with transportation safety laws, regulations, and company policies (e.g., hours of service, driver qualification standards, vehicle maintenance).
- Ensure all required documentation (e.g., vehicle inspections, driver logs) is properly maintained.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices.

- **Incident Investigation and Reporting**:

- Lead investigations of transportation-related incidents (accidents, injuries, near-misses).
- Identify root causes of incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and safety-related occurrences.

- **Risk Assessment and Hazard Mitigation**:

- Perform regular safety audits and assessments to identify potential hazards in the transportation operation.
- Recommend and implement corrective actions to mitigate identified risks.
- Conduct safety inspections of vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure safe operating conditions.

- **Driver Safety and Training**:

- Develop and deliver safety training programs for drivers (e.g., defensive driving, fatigue management, vehicle operation).
- Ensure that drivers are properly trained in emergency response protocols and safety procedures.
- Monitor driver performance through safety metrics and provide feedback or additional training as needed.

- **Performance Metrics and Reporting**:

- Track key safety performance indicators (KPIs) such as accident rates, injuries, vehicle downtime, and compliance audits.
- Prepare and present safety reports to senior management, highlighting trends, areas of concern, and improvement actions.
- Participate in safety meetings and safety committees.

- **Collaboration and Communication**:

- Work closely with the transportation team, HR, and senior management to promote a safety-first culture.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, insurers, and other external stakeholders regarding transportation safety matters.
- Maintain clear communication with drivers regarding safety expectations, policies, and training requirements.

- **Emergency Preparedness**:

- Ensure emergency response plans are in place for accidents, hazardous material spills, and other transportation-related emergencies.
- Regularly review and update emergency response protocols to ensure readiness.

**Requirements**:

- 3-5 years of experience in a safety management or transportation-related role, with at least 2 years in a managerial capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation safety regulations, including FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and other relevant standards.
- Strong understanding of risk management and hazard analysis techniques.
- Ability to conduct effective safety training and presentations.
- Proven track record of implementing safety programs and achieving measurable safety improvements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other safety management software (e.g., fleet management systems).
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Relevant certifications in occupational health and safety are an advantage.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and risk management.
