Support Staff Temporary Full-time Appendix D Contract Position (June 2023 - December 2023)

The Support Services Officer will assist multi-barriered, unemployed, and underemployed workers to explore, access and retain employment specific to this Ministry funded project. The incumbent will initiate, develop, and secure direct employment opportunities and training placements for students.

**Responsibilities**:
**Students**
- Using a customer centric and collaborative approach the incumbent liaises between students and their employers to ensure student success
- Interviews, assesses, and guides the student to explore employment and training goals and direct them to the most appropriate services to achieve successful outcomes
- Supports student in communication between faculty, Conestoga operations departments and employer; problem-solves and advocates on behalf of student to gain access to relevant community or program resources
- As per the requirements laid out in the Ministry Funded projects, develops individualized training/placement agreements
- Identifies student’s need for support pre/during/post placement experience; develops support plan and linkages with an employer outlining steps and objectives; monitors client/employer relationship, adjusts the plan accordingly to ensure success
- Reviews and discusses employability evaluations from the employer

**Employers**
- Maintains supportive/strategic relationships with employers to identify and meet human resource needs, labour market opportunities, and to support training/work experience for students
- Confirms eligibility, assesses workplace capacity, and evaluates commitment to participate in funded programs, on-the-job experiences and hiring of identified students
- Supports and coordinates placement and lab learning experiences in collaboration with the employer partner
- Communicates, documents, and supports work placement contracts, training objectives, commitments, and financial incentives for each student/employer connection
- Provides referrals to training on sensitivity/diversity, workplace safety, and accommodation needs, as required while monitoring, problem-solving, and supporting student/employer relationship
- Responds immediately to students and employers in crisis situations demonstrating effective problem-solving and listening skills, and facilitating access to qualified professionals or organizing case conferences as necessary

**Documentation**
- Records and reports confidential information, in an accurate and timely manner including documentation for funder and College data collection purposes
- Updates student records and files in accordance with funded program guidelines and departmental procedures, including student and employer contact documentation, subsidy information and rationales, training agreements, Employment Service Plans with rationale and progress/case notes
- Ensures all appropriate forms are signed by the employer and the student showing evidence of student ownership, eligibility, and consent to service (i.e., sign-off, record of discussions, use of confidentiality forms and assessment tools)
- Completes regular activity reports on student progress, student intake and placement activity
- Keeps up-to-date employer records and employer files

**Marketing, Community Involvement & Partnerships**
- Markets the programs listed under the Ministry funding to business, industry, community organizations and various business associations
- Coordinates and leads Program Advisory Committees
- Prepares and facilitates information sessions/presentations for employers, students, and associations
- Organizes and participates in community activities such as job fairs, trade shows and employer networking opportunities to develop, maintain and enhance relationships with industry, business, and other community employment/training providers
- Meets with company staff, networking and using targeted marketing/outreach strategies to create and maintain effective relationships with the employer community, coordinating with other programs in the community where appropriate
- Builds and maintains contacts with other service providers to facilitate the referral process
- Participates in relevant community groups to maintain linkages for customer group encouraging coordination of service delivery
