As the Data Scientist (Co-op) in our Market Intelligence team, you will help guide critical business decisions and work closely with sales and operations to shape the strategic plans of Canfor’s future. During this 8-month Co-op term, you will play a key role in research activities and will assist in the maintenance and evaluation of a database of key economic indicators as well as the testing/maintenance of forecasting models. Under the direction of the Director, you will maintain a database of market demand and supply data for both lumber and pulp by monitoring key demand areas and analyzing underlying drivers of demand areas. You will also produce and edit presentations and dashboards to communicate insights through the Company. This is a “tree-markable” opportunity to contribute to the execution of Canfor’s strategy.

Ideally, you are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree Co-op program in Business, Economics, Forestry, or Computer Science. For bonus points, you have experience in the lumber & pulp industry and excellent report writing and presentation skills. Experience with Python (programming language) and economic modeling would be a huge asset in this role.
