**Human Resources Summer Student - Summer 2023**

Scotia Investments is a team of approximately 25 IT, Finance, Engineering, and People & Culture Professionals providing shared services to our Scotia Family of Companies. We are the parent company for businesses diversely invested in manufacturing, green energy, forestry, innovative health, recycling and environmental sectors in Nova Scotia, across Canada and in the United States. Collectively the various businesses employ approximately 1500 employees.

At Scotia Investments we work to support our operating companies in achieving their business objectives and to facilitate the growth and development of all our team members.

The HR Summer Student will be part of the Scotia Investments Human Resources Team, located at 38 Solutions Drive in Halifax, NS. This team uses a shared services support model to the broader organization in the provision of people and culture guidance, strategic planning, program and policy development, special project management, communication, and HR best practices.

Throughout the work term, the student will be exposed to various Human Resources projects and challenges related to their field of study and to various communication and business aspects that will support their future practice. They will assist in the execution and optimization of long-term HR plans to help achieve business objectives.

Throughout their time with us, the student will be exposed to project work at various depths, based on their individual experience and aptitudes.

**Reports to**: Director, Employee & Workplace Programs

**Summer 2023 Project Focus**:

- The development, standardization, and optimization of Practices, Policies, Procedures, Programs and Perks
- HR Metrics - Monitoring and reporting on progress
- Learning and development in the provision of support for daily HR operations
- Communication and collaboration with various partners and stakeholders throughout the Scotia Family of Companies
- HR Event Support

**Throughout the work term, the student should achieve many (or all) of the following**:

- Data analysis and identification of subsequent action items and recommendations for improvements to existing 5P elements: Practices, Policies, Procedures, Programs and Perks
- Collecting, analyzing, and storing data for use in reporting
- Use of HR operational systems
- Coordinating with various companies/departments in the development of HR projects and priorities
- Providing project support to our head office HR team
- Development of basic working knowledge of Pension and Benefits Administration
- Completion of Project Management Training
- Developing a solid understanding of the project management process as it pertains to HR development
- Gaining experience in managing multiple projects and HR duties in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Supporting the HR Team with project management tasks including but not limited to documenting meeting notes and action items, tracking, and reporting on progress.

**Salary**: $17.00-$20.00 per hour
