Welcome to the Transit Division within the Ministry of Transportation

The Transit Division provides strategic advice, develops strategies for, and oversees the implementation of the province's capital investment in transit run by provincial agencies and municipal transit systems. It also develops and implements strategies and funding programs to support and optimize municipal transit across the province.

Our division is a dynamic and fast-moving organization that builds and maintains strong relationships with ministry stakeholders and agencies to deliver transportation services across the province. We provide oversight to capital projects delivered by the province and oversee transportation programs to ensure outcomes align with key government objectives.

Consider joining the Ministry of our growing policy team to help deliver on the government's ambitious transit policy mandate. As part of the Transit Division, you will conduct research and provide analysis on the development and implementation of policies and programs in relation to agency oversight, inter-regional transit governance, municipal transit programs, service delivery, and infrastructure.

The Transit Strategy Office is seeking a Policy Advisor to conduct policy research and analysis projects/studies related to strategic sustainable transportation policy issues as well as provide consultation and liaison services in support of policy/program planning.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will:

- Participate in developing policy/program recommendations
- Conducts environmental scans and trends analyses
- Assist with designing and developing operational guidelines /benchmarks
- Draft policy/research papers, memoranda, briefing documents, cabinet submissions and other legislative documents
- Provide support to multi-jurisdictional working groups
- Draft correspondence in response to public inquiries relating to legislation, regulations, policies and proposed policies and initiatives
- Prepare presentations and briefing materials (e.g. briefing notes, House notes, advice notes)
- Participate in ministry/cross-ministry events and stakeholder consultations

**How do I qualify?**:
**Technical Knowledge**: You have:

- Knowledge of program analysis/evaluation techniques to assess the effectiveness of new/changed policies and programs, and provide recommendations on policy and program change

**Research and Analytical Skills**: You can:

- Conduct policy research involving monitoring of trends, direction and issues, analysis of multiple sources of information/data, consideration of qualitative and quantitative factors
- Review, assess, and summarize stakeholder comments/survey findings

**Consultation and Communication Skills**: You can:

- Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and gain support for policy and program initiatives
- Participate in consultation and survey processes
- Prepare policy papers, reports, analyses, correspondence, briefing notes and materials for cabinet submissions
- Provide advice on policy development and approvals processes, and explain policy/program recommendations
