Thales people architect solutions that support 85 million mainline and suburban passenger journeys, worldwide, every day. Our Rail Signalling and Communication systems are used on metro lines across major cities, and 72,000 kms of route, 52,000 trains per day in 16 countries are controlled by our Traffic Management Systems. Together We deployed the first-ever nationwide ticketing system which processes over 50 million ticketing transactions in 100 cities daily.
The Category Manager is in charge of one or several procurement categories and/or sub-categories related to Direct categories and products required to support the business unit, as well as electrical and electronic components to include but not limited to PCB boards, remote IO, microprocessors chipsets, modules, cables and connectors, as well as mechanical and machining parts.
Key Accountabilities
The Category Manager is expected to:
- Implement, in close collaboration with the Global Business Units (GBU) / Global Category Managers (GCM) the procurement strategy for the various commodities / sub-categories related to Transportation Infrastructure Products, Systems & Equipment, and ensure their strategy is enforced and meets entities' / countries' requirements by a specific tactical approach.
- Responsible and accountable for selecting suppliers (aligned with the category strategy) and managing supplier relationships in order to guarantee that the level of performance (such as Quality, Price and Delivery) meet the requirements/interests of the businesses/Thales.
- Ensure the most up-to-date knowledge of its supplier market, including innovations and key new emerging technologies
- Develop and implement procurement policies and supplier panel for assigned category in conjunction with stakeholders as appropriate, put in place and manage Framework Agreements for regional suppliers where appropriate and/or desirable.
- Work closely with other functions as necessary, manage all purchasing aspects of assigned Bid and Project, to ensure packages are executed in accordance with technical, program, cost and performance (quality and delivery) requirements within their respective area of category / sub-categories responsibility.
- Manage risks and opportunities associated with each of their respective suppliers across the region.
Strategy
Permanently develop and enrich the regional strategy for the existing direct services and products such as Built to print and built to Spec Racks and Cabinets assemblies, mechanical frames/parts and hardware parts/software COTS integration, for the mid and long term, based on entities' needs in close relationship with the GBU leadership.
- Ensure a perfect knowledge and buy-in of the category strategy from engineering team, the Product / Project Procurement organization or the relevant stakeholders, and by entities / regions
Competitiveness
- Monitor the market for their category, including key actors and suppliers, economic evolutions, innovations, technology, in order to propose the most up-to-date solutions to businesses
- Provide business with insights as to how products / projects could be more competitive, based on their monitoring
- Prepare Make or Buy decision, in collaboration with project / product procurement manager or relevant stakeholders.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5 to 7+ years of strategic sourcing and category/commodity management experience, and leading P3 sourcing projects greater than $300k spend and High Risk
- Knowledge of value analysis methods
- Know how to evaluate risks and propose a mitigation plan
- Have knowledge of commercial law, and basic knowledge for insurance and export control
- Ability to Lead Complex and High Spend Negotiations. Proven experience negotiating T&Cs
- Multi-year track record of delivering cost reduction
- Strategic Risk Partners for Complex decision making
- Ability to clearly present and communicate sourcing plans to senior leadership
- Ability to facilitate cost reduction workshops and technology innovation workshops
- Take ownership and able to drive project to completion in a timely manner
- Capability to manage by influence and to convince
- Leadership skills with the ability to influence in order to deliver business results
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree (Engineering, Business, Economics, Supply Chain, etc.)
- Professional Procurement Certification (EIPM, CIPS, CPM, etc.)
