The Milestones program is currently seeking someone who has a passion for working with children and youth with disabilities and their families. The **Family Coordinator** will be responsible for working with families to develop service plans, teach parents strategies and tools to increase their capacity to positively parent their children and include them fully in family and community life. The **Family Coordinator** will be involved in independent community work with families as well as facilitating groups. **This position does require a minimum of 3 evenings a week.** This position covers the Calgary area with potential travel to Chestermere, Strathmore, and Airdrie.
**Some of the key aspects of this role include**:
- Working with families to support them in the challenges of raising a child with a disability.
- Educating and supporting families to increase skills that promote greater self-efficacy.
- Planning and conducting group educational sessions on topics related to family functioning.
- Connecting families to appropriate community resources and services when applicable.
- A degree or diploma in Human Services, preferably within Community Rehabilitation or Disability Studies.
- Extensive knowledge of developmental disorders and experience implementing and modeling numerous behavioural and developmental strategies.
- Capabilities in working with families who have experienced trauma, working with Child and Family Services and assisting families in meeting basic needs such as housing, food and safety.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well within a team environment as well as independently.
- A valid driver’s license and proof of adequate automobile insurance.
- A current (no more than 6 months old) Police Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Check.
- Current standard First Aid Certification and Suicide Intervention Training.
**_*This role will require the ability to work flexible hours that will include a minimum of 3 evenings per week and the ability to be on an on-call rotation within the organization._**
